"My work, both as a performer and a teacher, has been more focused, more accomplished, and more confident as a direct result of my Creative Renewal activities."
Kate traveled to the West of Ireland and stayed in a cottage in a secluded area, practicing piano daily and spending time hiking, reading and being in nature. She attended many Irish music sessions in remote, mountainous areas. She returned to Ireland in the summer of 2010, hiking in the Mourne Mountains and collaborating with a composer from Northern Island in a performance with a disabled dance troupe. A nine-day trip to New York City allowed Kate to experience musical and theatrical events, and visit other musicians. "Returning to Ireland and also visiting New York City allowed me to experience the renewing energy of coming into contact with highly creative people whom my normal day-to-day demands don't allow me to see."
Kate also joined a gym and purchased professional-quality speakers as a part of her fellowship. "Renewing myself meant broadening, not narrowing, my focus. Releasing and letting things happen, rather than bearing down and trying harder."
