"The most notable and, I hope, lasting impact in this entire process has to be the confidence it has instilled in me regarding my work. Confidence not only in the work I am making but also in my pursuit of my artistic and professional goals."
Scott's Creative Renewal experience began with a bronze casting class at the Indianapolis Art Center. "This was not a previously planned component of my fellowship, but I have long wanted to try my hand at creating cast metal sculptures." The centerpiece of Scott's renewal experience was a two-month artist residency in Berlin, Germany, living with nine fellow artists from around the world. "The immediate experience of living for a period of time in such a different environment and with other artists gave me a different take on my work and process while offering up the opportunity to learn from those around me."
Scott created 19 paintings, four sculptures, 20 works on paper, and two artist books as a result of his fellowship. He also returned to Berlin in the summer of 2010. "Being an abstract painter, I engulfed myself fully in researching contemporary abstraction. Upon my return to the states, this research lead me to the opportunity to curate a group exhibition of abstraction for the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art."
