Organizational FAQ's

  • 1. I'm new to the arts scene in Indianapolis. How can I get involved with opportunities local arts organizations offer?

Many arts organizations offer a wide array of opportunities to learn more about what they do.  For example, the Indianapolis Opera offers social opportunities like “ Opera Lite ” where young professionals can gather to learn about that evening's performance.

Another opportunity is with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.  Adults and families get involved in post-concert activities such as “ Family Chat ” where they can have an informal discussion with musicians.

And for current events information, the Arts Council's  organization directory is another great resource to stay informed.

  • 2. Are there any other funding opportunities for arts organizations outside of the Arts Council's programs?

Yes!  Other opportunities for funding exist outside of our programs.  Locally, the Indianapolis Cultural Development Commission's "Fast Track Funding Program"  offers monthly grants for cultural tourism projects.

The Indiana Arts Commission offers annual grants for organizations, lists a few national websites for grant opportunities, and offers an Individual Artist Program.

Grants.gov allows for organizations to search by a variety of categories for available grants nationwide.  The National Endowment for the Arts also provides some additional granting opportunities.

  • 3. What is the Arts Council of Indianapolis’ relationship to local arts organizations?

The Arts Council of Indianapolis annually awards grants to 501(c)3 arts and cultural organizations as well as arts-specific project grants to local non-profit organizations.  The Arts Council provides advocacy and support to local arts organizations in central Indiana through increasing access and awareness of the arts.
