Thank you to everyone that attended this year’s celebration and helped to make it our most successful year yet!
There was much to celebrate about the arts in Indianapolis this year at Start with Art. Exploring the theme Connecticity, we learned about the importance, as a city, to come together in community partnerships, to connect, share, and celebrate together all that happens in Greater Indianapolis.
Opening remarks were made by Mrs. Winnie Ballard on the importance of the arts to Indianapolis. “We live in a city built around art,” she had said, referencing Monument Circle.
Honorary Corporate Chair, Ersal Ozdemir, President and CEO of Keystone Construction Corporation, spoke on the development of downtown and the part the arts play in the growth and success of a major metropolitan area.
President and CEO of the Arts Council of Indianapolis, Dave Lawrence, introduced several new initiatives:
Power2give – An online cultural marketplace where donors looking to support the arts are able find various projects from a variety of organizations in need of funding.
Indy Arts Guide - The city’s most comprehensive online calendar to the arts. The Indy Arts Guide offers the largest database of arts organizations in the city, featuring events, festivals, classes, workshops, fundraisers, jobs, auditions, venues, and public art.
Indy Arts Guide App – A mobile-friendly app that will allow people to access arts and cultural information from wherever they are.
Keynote speaker, Jono Bacon, entertained the crowd with an energized presentation on his personal experience using community to promote his business. He emphasized “the value of many above the singular,” and stressed that “when you unite people for a cause, anything can happen.”
