Board of Directors is underway with transition plan to identify successor

After more than five years of dedicated service, Julie Goodman has made the difficult decision to step down from her role as President and CEO of Indy Arts Council to focus on personal goals related to her health and family priorities. She will remain with the Arts Council through mid-November to support a smooth transition while the Board conducts an executive search to name a new leader by the end of this year.

Goodman joined Indy Arts Council in March of 2019 and has been widely recognized for her leadership of Indy’s arts sector during the pandemic and following recovery phases. During her tenure she helped to galvanize increased support for local artists and arts organizations. Goodman has been instrumental in advancing equity, strengthening partnerships, and elevating the Arts Council’s role and reputation as a leading champion for arts and culture in our region.

“It’s been an honor and privilege to serve my hometown in this capacity,” said Goodman. “Indy’s arts & culture community is so special – it’s hard to know the right time to leave a role that has meant so much. I’m proud of what our team and sector have accomplished during such a challenging, but also dynamic time of massive growth, collaboration and innovation. I appreciate the Board’s understanding as I focus on personal priorities. I’m forever grateful for the many community partnerships and progress we’ve made together, and I know that will continue. I’m excited for the Arts Council’s next chapter and believe it’s the right time for a fresh perspective to carry that work forward.”

Indy Arts Council’s Board Chair Brenda Horn added, “The Arts Council has made major progress during Julie’s tenure and we will continue that momentum. She leaves us in a strong position with a bold new strategic plan that reflects the values and vision of regional residents, artists, arts organizations, and community partners. We’re confident in the path forward and excited for continued progress under new leadership. We are sad to see her go, but we support her decision and are glad she will be staying engaged in our local arts community.”

Following a transition period, Goodman will continue to be part of Indy’s vibrant arts & culture community, serving as Chief Advancement Officer with The Cabaret.

Horn will lead the Arts Council’s search committee. The position will be posted by mid-October and related questions or inquiries can be directed to ceosearch@indyarts.org.
