Indy Arts Council President & CEO Judith B. Thomas named a 2025 IBJ Woman of Influence

Indy Arts Council President & CEO Judith B. Thomas was named a 2025 Indianapolis Business Journal Woman of Influence, announced today during an award ceremony at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. IBJ’s Women of Influence spotlights some of Indianapolis’ most successful businesswomen from both the public and private sectors, revealing the triumphs and challenges that have shaped their careers. Thomas was chosen from among more than 175 nominees and will be featured along with four other women on the cover of this year’s Women of Influence publication.

Over the course of her 35+ year career – spanning roles at Emmis Communications, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), Visit Indy, the Madam Walker Legacy Center, the City of Indianapolis as Deputy Mayor, and now as Indy Arts Council President & CEO – Thomas has consistently demonstrated professional excellence through strategic innovation, cross-sector collaboration, and impactful fundraising. Now, as Indy Arts Council President & CEO, Thomas is already making great strides in developing relationships to advance funding and advocacy initiatives that are critical to the organization’s future and have a direct impact on central Indiana’s thriving arts scene.

In her role as Deputy Mayor, Thomas consistently showed up for the Indianapolis community, providing resources, information, and inspiration to those who needed it. She made appearances at hundreds of events and meetings, delivering impactful remarks and speeches. She continues this same commitment to the arts sector in her position leading the Indy Arts Council.

Thomas leads with a vision rooted in equity, sustainability, and community empowerment. She has been a champion of culturally responsive and community-centered programs, advocating for underserved communities and designing systems that outlast her direct involvement. Thomas has consistently demonstrated a leadership vision that prioritizes long-term progress, leading with empathy and intention while consistently empowering others and creating opportunities for growth.
