Julia Muney Moore, Director of Public Art

Provenance:  Silver Spring, MD; Indy resident since 1991

Current neighborhood:  I live in one of the few city neighborhoods that has no name—it’s just north of Broad Ripple.

First Job: Ponderosa Steakhouse—where we had MAXIMUM skirt lengths!

If I weren't an arts administrator, I would be: An archaeologist.

Inspiration:  Mary Jane Jacob, a visionary curator, educator, and thinker about site, context, history, use, and culture. She has done it all in her career in a way I hope to match.

Reading: Literary fiction, and too many detective novels.

Listening to: Scores from Broadway and Bollywood musicals, folk and folk-inspired music.

Zen Moment:  Last fall, when I was suspended between earth and sky on a chair lift in Italy, contemplating the Bay of Naples and the Mediterranean Sea.

Current Project: Envisioning a holistic future for public art in Indianapolis. The possibilities are endless.

Dream Project: Creating and managing an international festival of inflatable art, here in Indy. If it’s annual and high-quality, it would totally put us on the map!

What artist/musician (living or deceased) would you like to have dinner with and where would you take them? I want to take Remedios Varo to Public Greens. I think she’d dig the vibe.

Love about the Indy arts scene: There’s something for any taste: If you can’t find what you like, just turn around and it’s there.

When you are not out crusading for the arts, where can we find you? At home with my cats, reading in a comfy chair.
