Cris Rivas is from Kansas City, Missouri. She studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Boston Museum School (SMFA). Cris is a hand-builder who works intuitively. She is influenced by insect builders, the workings of water and wind, and observation. She moved to Indianapolis with her husband and daughter in 2013.
“I make sculptures that locate emotional states within a body reimagined using magic realism and narrative. My goal is to create visual poems, myth, and fables to communicate and connect my inner world with the viewer.”
