Dorothy Alig is a painter and printmaker based in Indianapolis. Through her work she investigates her varied interests–recent examples include the Webb telescope images, the covid-prompted anthropause, botany, geology, poetry, personality tests, islamic architecture–to name a few. She has also worked on many commissions for private and corporate clients –Cummins, Gershman Partners, Community Hospital Cancer Center, Morgan Stanley, etc..
Her work is recognizable thanks to the use of over 50 screen print patterns that she has created over the years which she uses in combination with painted elements applied in many (many!) layers. Alig combines her background in art conservation and chemistry (color) and in textile design (pattern) to create images that evoke a sense of transformation.
