Samantha Ortiz is a Brazilian-American visual artist working with the intersection of slow clothing and fine art, exploring the power of the divine feminine form and its self healing. Ortiz partners with active meditation in the process of hand spinning to take it from plant based fibers to yarns to garments to sculptures, translating the spiritual and the aesthetical engagement of the process.

In 20 plus years working with visual art, Ortiz had her work exhibited at Venice Biennial Art, have done lectures, workshops and exhibitions in Art Museums, Art Galleries, Design Stores and Art Institutions in Lisbon (Portugal), Madrid (Spain), Valparaíso (Chile), Indianapolis, New Orleans and New York (USA) and many cities in Brazil.

Visual Artist

‘My work is about the self-healing power through my feminine spiral energy. It’s my visual voice of saying that you can reinvent yourself. Allow to melt you down and to let go of all your former definitions of yourself, to then recrystallize as someone new, in the way that you prefer to be. Balanced. It is with interactive art installations that I say that we are the spiral portals for transformation. May that be with a wearable installation or with an installation experienced in an exhibition. One of the deepest and vivid interactions I experience in my artworks is when I’m hand spinning plant based fibers, pairing with active meditation. This is the magic potion! The spiral portal to reboot yourself, to heal, as many times as you wish. It is when I’m creating from fiber to thread, that I’m not only perpetuating the ancient technique of spinning from my ancestors but I’m actually being able to pass on this energy by the thread as a spider does from her guts.’
