Zola’s practice sits at the intersection of art and activism. Personally, it’s a tool for self-liberation. Broadly, Lamothe uses the unique qualities of art to create a culture of curiosity around social justice topics. This allows her audience to not only learn about social justice topics but also interact, discuss, and most importantly care about the issues.
Most notably, this exploration has led to the award of the Power Plant grant from Big Car Collaborative made possible by the Andy Warhol Foundation For the Visual Arts for her debut photography project Unveiling a Forgotten Legacy which brings awareness to the Black neighborhoods displaced by the construction of Indiana University Indianapolis, starts conversations around gentrification, and reclaims cultural space.
