Copyright Your Work!
The Observer's Sam P. Israel points out an important fact about copyrighting your work: it's always your work, even if you only copyright it after you discover an infringement, but it's by far in your best interest to copyright it before any violations. Copyright immediately upon creation can entitle the artist to much higher statutory damages if a work is infringed, but the artist may only collect actual damages if copyright is obtained after an infringement occurs.
