Finding the Right Alternative Space for You and Your Work

In an era where commercial galleries can be scarce, the alternative space can be a very valuable tool for emerging and mid-career artists. An alternative space can be a coffee shop, a bookstore, or corporate board room. Some of these are great opportunities, but many can be more trouble than they are worth. It is important that artists evaluate the potential benefit of each space before committing to the time and effort involved in exhibiting their work. We sat down with Indianapolis-based artist and curator, Kyle Ragsdale, to get his take on alternative spaces and how he has managed to make them a key aspect of his successful art career in Indianapolis.
