Whit Bones, Director of Community Engagement & Strategic Advancement

Provenance: Tulsa, Oklahoma

Current neighborhood: Franklin, Indiana

First Job: Preparator at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. I installed Vincent van Gogh's self portrait once. It was like looking in a mirror.

If I weren't an arts administrator, I would be: Restauranteur, I love the service industry.

Inspiration: Creativity and general weirdness in others.

Reading: Making Ideas Happen: Overcoming the Obstacles Between Vision and Reality by Scott Belsky

Listening to: Politically Reactive, RadioLab, On the Media, and Reply All. Also, a lot of music.

Zen Moment: That brief moment between wakefulness and sleep when everything seems to make so much sense and no sense at all.

Current Project: The Indy Arts Marketers is becoming a central focus of my work, adding to the capacity of arts organizations, building a community of marketers, and cultivating a shared voice to elevate the arts in throughout the community.

Dream Project: A national media strategy positioning Indianapolis amongst the leading art cities in the US.

What artist/musician (living or deceased) would you like to have dinner with and where would you take them? Banksy...but I can't tell you where we are going, sorry.

Love about the Indy arts scene: We play with a chip on our shoulder which gives us a real edge. Indianapolis is not known nationally as a place for the arts but the people that are working and engaging in it, understand how incredible what we have really is.

When you are not out crusading for the arts, where can we find you? Chasing my two boys around in our backyard or in the kitchen with my wife.

Community Service/Memberships/Certifications: Franklin Department of Public Art, IndyHub Foundation Board Member, NOTE Editorial Committee, 2018 Arts Midwest Conference Professional Development Committee, 2018 Indy Ultimate Steering Committee, Any Given Child Indy Creative Engagement Committee.
