Freeze
See it: 120 Monument Circle
Artist: Deonna Craig
Artist Deonna Craig describes her Freeze painting as “a display of ‘Black boy joy’ – a cartwheel frozen in time.” Even as the abstract work implies the suspension of motion, its curved lines, repeated circles and at least a dozen colors combine for a visual outburst. In 2020, DePauw University alum Craig contributed the letter “V” to a “Black Lives Matter” street mural on Indiana Avenue. On April 16, the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields will launch its “Drip” exhibition featuring the 18 “Black Lives Matter” mural artists.
