Running through the hood

See it: 120 Monument Circle
Artist: Matthew Cooper

Three youngsters dash past a home in Matthew Cooper’s Running through the hood. Cooper, an alum of the Herron School of Art and Design, says carefree nostalgia inspired the oil and spray paint work. “Community was family,” he says. “A moment in time to remember how simple life was and how enjoyable life can be.” This year’s Arts Council of Indianapolis “Art & Soul” celebration showcased Cooper as one of four featured artists. Cooper added larger pieces to his repertoire in 2019, when he completed an apprenticeship with muralist ISH Muhammad.
