Mark Geotzinger

Because of the Creative Renewal Fellowship, I had one of the most significant professional experiences of my life.

Mark traveled west over 10,500 miles in six weeks. He started each day as an unplanned and "unscripted" journey where each day began without knowing where he would rest his head that night. "My proposal changed very little from beginning to end; however, I found implementing it took a little practice." His journey took him through 18 states as well as the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. He experienced the Canadian Rockies, Chief Crazy Horse Monument, Death Valley, Indian Cliff Dwellings, Matchstick Marvels Museum, the Redwood Forest, the Pacific Ocean, Yosemite National Park, and Zion National Park.

What he learned along the way was that "my life is a trip as well and everyday I have the power to make choices about every aspect of my life." During a rest in Waterloo, IA, he decided on one more stop to Spring Green, WI and the American Players Theatre. There, an old high school friend, actor, and director was working for the summer. It was during this meeting that plans were set in place for his return to the American Players Theatre for five months in the summer and fall of 2012 for a production at the theatre.
