The Indianapolis Public Library is bringing New York Times Bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Timothy Egan to the 46th Annual Marian McFadden Memorial Lecture. This event will take place at the Madam Walker Legacy Center, 617 Indiana Ave., on March 20 at 7 p.m. Egan will be available after the lecture for a book signing.

Egan’s most recent book, “A Fever in the Heartland: The Ku Klux Klan’s Plot to Take Over America, and the Woman Who Stopped Them,” tells the true story of a murderous conman, the Klan’s rise to power in Indiana in the 1920s, and the woman who led to their downfall.

Tickets are free but extremely limited and will be available to the public beginning Friday, March 7 at 5 p.m., while supplies last. Those who wish to attend can sign up for tickets at indypl.org/mcfadden. This event will be recorded and available to watch on The Indianapolis Public Library’s YouTube channel for up to a week following the event. Attendees of the lecture will also receive a code for a free ticket to attend the Indiana Historical Society’s “RESIST!” exhibit through April 30, 2025.
