Since 1996, the Art & Soul festival has kicked off Black History Month in Indianapolis, but now, this celebration of Black culture and creativity is going year-round.

Come to the Indianapolis Artsgarden for Art & Soul Sundays, a time for everyone to come together for soulful music and dance to get their week started.

All events are free and family friendly. Parking is available in the Circle Centre Mall garages.

ABOUT THE SHOW

For this Art & Soul performance, Penny English has chosen to create an intimate atmosphere with just herself, a guitar, and a cello. Celebrating her shared blackness and the event’s theme, she dedicates this show to the various black artists worldwide who have inspired and shaped her as a creative force. The performance will feature a blend of soul, rock, hip-hop, R&B, reggae, and country, taking the audience on a journey through the many prolific interpretations of black culture.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Penny English is a multifaceted artist born and based on the Eastside of Indianapolis. Since 2006 as a youth, Penny has been a part of the musical community in Indiana performing on the cello with her brothers across the state in orchestras led by the late great Betty Perry, founder of MYO. In 2017, she graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts with a Songwriting degree as singer-songwriter on guitar, and performance as a cellist. Since then, she’s been creating, collaborating and designing mixtapes, albums, and merchandise of her craft. Influenced by her classical beginnings,  hip hop, r & b, soul, rock, blues/country and ‘world’ music from various bands she’s been a part of, Penny’s determined to forge a sound of her own. In 2019, she performed at the Artsgarden Art and Soul Series alongside her brothers performing original work and arrangements,  as well as covering a few of her favorite jams. Currently Penny has created and hosts a podcast called “Penny, for your Thoughts” featured on Apple Music and Spotify exploring  behind the scenes worlds of various creative mediums, posing questions, striving to dig deeper into the minds of artists and fans alike, one thought at a time. You can currently find all of Penny’s work on pennyenglishwho.wordpress.com
