The venerable film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and the Great American Songbook Foundation is marking the occasion with special free film screenings and celebrity guest appearances in conjunction with the Foundation’s upcoming international conference on the legacy of the Hollywood musical.
On May 14, Patricia Ward Kelly – biographer and widow of film and dance icon Gene Kelly – will give a presentation on her late husband’s experience as star and co-director of the 1952 MGM classic SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN. The event will include a screening of the film, audience Q&A and meet and greet opportunities with Mrs. Kelly, and displays of rarely seen historical items from the Songbook Library & Archives.
