“Spring Cleaning” after Carla Knopp is not just a metaphor but an actual purge of materials that artist Carla Knopp gave Becky Wilson a few years back when they both had studios in the Circle City Industrial Complex (now Factory Arts District). This work showcases abstracted floral arrangements using deconstructed plastic flowers, common crafting materials, and items collected along the journey of Wilson’s forty-year studio art career.
The elements are assembled onto organic-shaped substrates into visually delightful and ethereal experiences that suggest other worlds while still hinting at possible narratives. The result is a fun and playful body of colorful works that reflect Wilson’s own enjoyment of exploring what can be done with the materials.
“I consider these pieces to be a collaboration of sorts,” says Wilson. “It’s impossible to get the Carla out of the materials she gave me. I have embraced them.”
This event is presented by 10 East Arts.
