Aug 1 – 31

The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will feature Mike Meares and Nathan Winship Smith teamed up for “Artifacts Reveal Alternate Realities?” as part of the August First Friday art tour, August 1st, 6-9pm. Admission and parking are free. Children are welcome.

Mike Meares is a mixed-media artist known for his “Space Rockers” series inspired by music. Nathan Winship Smith is a ceramicist with an undying interest in history’s mysteries. Together, they will take a most scholarly approach to examine recently discovered artifacts and, therefore, challenge the truth about the history of aliens visiting the Earth, world empires, fast food lore, and rock ‘n’ roll.

The duo will also unveil a new mural near the gallery, based on their combined mythologies.

About Mike Meares and Nathan Winship Smith

Mike Meares arrived in Indianapolis from Illinois, via San Francisco (and possibly also in a spaceship). He’s kind of an odd bird who paints weird stuff and loves grooving to good tunes. It’s reflected in his work, with bright colorful streaks driven by whatever music is playing. He’s looking forward to this tongue-in-cheek show as an exploration in oddity.

Nathan Winship Smith can also be found at the Beech Grove Clay Works, which he owns as a ceramic boss with a love for aliens and retro fast-food lore. His work often focuses on blending archeology-inspired pottery shapes, but decorated with imagery pulled from the modern era. Think vases from ancient Greece, but showcasing aliens and hamburgers.

The pair are excited to see where recent “archeological discoveries that challenge the balance of truth versus conspiracy” take them on their artistic journeys.
