The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will feature Vivien Khamis in “The Beings of Eratu” as part of the First Friday art tour at the Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9), 6-9pm on Friday, December 6th. Admission and parking are free.
“It’s a fun romp through this world I’ve been making,” Khamis said. “I normally do more dark surrealist art, but deep down, I just want to draw dragons, and knights. It’s always been my comfort subject, and probably will be for all my life.”
“A show for nerds,” “The Beings of Eratu” is an exercise in portraiture and illustration work centered around fantasy and surrealistic stylings, depicted with everything from digital drawings to oil painting. This is a step into a very rich world.
“I’ve always been someone to make characters and stories for them. Art gave me the outlet to make those characters come to life and not just be stories in my head. Each piece I have up has 100 hours worth of history to them, and many stories of how they interact with their world,” Khamis said.
About Vivien Khamis
Vivien Khamis holds a formal art degree from Ball State University, but has been creating art all of her life. Often, Khamis would be the kid getting in trouble for doodling dragons on a notebook instead of doing homework, but they weren’t just doodles. They were an escape from the real world, where Khamis could tell fantastical stories of heroes, villians, immortal beings of great power, and even just common everyday folk, each with their own story and lives interwoven into the world. Each piece in “The Beings of Eratu will have a little paragraph accompanying them, telling a little bit about the subject’s backstory.
“Fantasy art has always captured my imagination, and made me want to make worlds of my own. Very often I’d use these characters in actual games of Dungeons and Dragons, but it would take multiple lifetimes for me to play all of them,” Khamis said. “I hope visitors come away with ideas to make their own characters or stories just like how previous artists inspired me. Every nerd I know has some kind of story they’d like to tell, and in that story there’s countless hours of ideas and concepts they want to express. I want this show to be the reason they start making those ideas come to life. Be it through art, writing, or even just finding a group of friends to talk about it with. If you’re a fan of fantasy games like DnD or Magic the Gathering, this will be a great show to come see.”
