Over the course of her twenty-five years of touring, singer songwriter Susan Werner has cultivated a reputation as a daring and innovative songwriter with a compelling live performance. She boldly endeavors to weave old with new to create altogether new genres of music when existing ones do not suit her muse, and she regularly keeps audiences guessing and laughing simultaneously. Most of her work infuses traditional music styles and methods with her unmistakable contemporary worldview, constantly challenging listeners to experience music from a fresh and unexpected perspective.

With formidable chops on guitar (she began playing at age 5) and piano, along with a graduate degree in voice performance, her shows are a one-woman master class in musicianship. Werner has firmly established her reputation as one of the boldest creative forces on the acoustic scene today.

Werner was raised on her family’s farm near Dubuque Iowa. She became interested in music at a young age, and initially studied for a career in opera, but after seeing Nanci Griffith perform, she became inspired and began composing songs of her own on acoustic guitar. She has toured all over the world, and currently calls Chicago home.

“Susan Werner, a clever songwriter and an engaging performer, brings literacy and wit back to popular song.” -The New Yorker
