“From Concept to Color” presents a selection of sculpture and painting from the past two decades of James Wille Faust’s studio production.
Faust is widely known for his abstract paintings and sculptures that employ geometric patterns and brilliant color to convey emotion and meaning, often with the use of illusionistic effects. An immensely prolific artist, at any given time Faust is engaged in a multitude of projects from sizable paintings to three-dimensional creations presented at a more diminutive scale.
While Faust’s use of vivid pigments has become a hallmark of his practice, “From Concept to Color” gives a glimpse into the artist’s unique methods, where the starting point for his art is often form, not color. Artworks in the show range from fully realized paintings and sculptural maquettes to pared down three-dimensional works.

Faust received his B.F.A. from Herron School of Art and Design and his M.F.A. from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. His work has been included in numerous regional and national exhibitions.
