I moved to NYC on August 15th, 2001. After a couple of weeks I got a job as an Assistant Creative at Lowe Lintas Worldwide in Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza on East 47th street. My first day of work was 9/11.

I knew who I was before I moved to NYC, but like most early 20-somethings I was still in the process of figuring out who I wanted to be. That day changed me forever. How I saw the world. How I processed the importance of things. How my heart was broken and filled simultaneously. It was wildly confusing and enlightening all at once.

I’ve always had an insatiable need for color in my life. Not just color though, VIBRANT color. Color with passion. Color with humor. Color with meaning. That day was as contradictory as every emotion that was running through me. It was the most beautiful, sunny, bright blue clear sky day. And then the black darkness came. I will truly, never forget.

Painting is the most honest and significant way that I have been able to dig into my life and express my own personal contradictions of varying levels of intensity: of love and anger, hope and disappointment, joy and frustration, pain and humor. With every stroke, I am making a statement, even if I don’t always have the words to verbalize it. The one unmistakable thread of consistency throughout each piece is the obsessive use of colors.
