Night of Vonnegut Gala Returns to Celebrate Humor, Humanity, and the Life of a Legend

The Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library (KVML) will host its signature annual gala, Night of Vonnegut, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Hampton Homewood in downtown Indianapolis, just steps from KVML’s headquarters.

Night of Vonnegut brings together literary enthusiasts, supporters of free expression, and advocates for common decency in an evening that raises vital funds to support KVML’s year-round programming, including educational outreach, exhibits, and the fight against censorship through initiatives like Banned Books Week and the distribution of banned books and other free speech materials to students across the country.

The 2025 Night of Vonnegut gala will also serve as the soft launch of the 20th Anniversary Edition of A Man Without a Country by Kurt Vonnegut, featuring a brand-new introduction by comedian, social critic, and KVML honorary board member Lewis Black. Guests will have the opportunity to celebrate this special re-release, which continues Vonnegut’s legacy of wit, wisdom, and sharp social commentary.

Guests will enjoy an elegant meal catered by Jonathan Byrd’s, live jazz by Pavel and Direct Contact, thought-provoking speakers, a spirited auction, and the presentation of both the Kurt Vonnegut Humor Award and the Rebeccah Glass Lowe Spirit of Volunteerism Award. These celebrations are part of an early birthday tribute to the beloved author, who would have turned 103 this November.
