The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will feature Steve VanDeVanter with “Paintings in Oil” as part of the November First Friday art tour, Friday, November 7th, 6-9pm. Admission and parking are free.
As autumn closes in on the Midwest, VanDeVanter wanted to take a look back at the warmer days of summer. This celebration of nature, sunshine, and Hoosier landscapes allowed VanDeVanter to make the most of his recent explorations into oil paint and its applications.
“When I think back on the artwork I’ve created, it represents moments in time that I’ve had around Indiana,” VanDeVanter said. “These are snapshots of summer’s past, and a reminder that winter doesn’t last forever. Art is a representation of yourself because it is what stimulates you. Painting truly is the perfect therapy for a world that thrives on chaos. Life slows down just a little bit while there’s a paintbrush in your hand.”
About Steven VanDeVanter
Steve VanDeVanter was born and raised in Indianapolis, and is a graduate of the John Herron School of Art, with a BFA in painting and a minor in art history. For over two decades, he owned a successful residential window and construction business but now spends time focusing on his creative endeavors, as the lead singer, lyricist and rhythm guitarist of Agents of the Apocalypse, and as a painting instructor at The Joyful Palette Art Salon.
“I paint in oil, mostly on canvas,” VanDeVanter said. “Some paintings are slightly impasto, painted only with a palette knife. Some paintings have more attention to detail and are painted with a lot more brushwork. I just paint what inspires me at the moment, and no other work gives me more pleasure.
Pick up a paint brush. Paint something in your backyard, a landscape in your community. Paint something you would normally overlook or something you always love looking at. Paint what inspires you or paint your feelings to get it out. Just paint.”
The Full Circle Nine Gallery operates as an artist cooperative gallery, with each of the member artists and the board dividing gallery duties and artists roles. With over two dozen artists occupying a large, three-room space of the more factory reminiscent portion of the Factory Arts District North building, Full Circle Nine Gallery offers a wide variety of art forms, media, and approaches.
The gallery has regular hours: 12-4pm on Saturday and Sundays. Full Circle Nine Gallery is located at 1125 Brookside Ave., Ste B21, Indianapolis, IN 46202, in the South Studios section of Factory Arts North.
