Tuesday, March 25, 2025: Norbert Krapf (2009- 2010 Indiana Poet Laureate)
Norbert’s book, Ida Hagan was released in June 2024. The Ida Hagan story has spanned 14 years of research. Ida is from Dubois County, Jasper, IN, Norbert’s home town. Norbert referred to Ida as such a marvelous woman and human being. Norbert wrote me in May 2024 saying that the Ida Hagan poetry collection finally went to press! “The book is printed and feels so good in my hands!”. Ida was a young girl in school at the Gelbausen School in April 11, 1898. Ida Hagan lived in the Pinkston Freedom Settlement. Norbert shares the importance of recognizing the life and contributions of Ida Hagan, a Black woman who lived in Dubois County, IN in the early 1900’s. During that time period, Dubois County was predominantly a rural and German immigrant community with a Black Settlement named Pinkston Freedom Settlement per Aleta Hodge, author, playwright & 2022 Diversity Scholar with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
