In this critical period in their countries’ histories, two Indianapolis-based artists and curators collaborate on an artistic juxtaposition of their cultures to gain a greater understanding of the spirit of resistance in the face of unrelenting odds.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Iryna has embroidered the number of days that have passed—a ritual she will continue throughout the exhibition, turning time itself into a testament of resilience.
Qahar’s richly detailed oil paintings capture Afghanistan’s history, beauty, and struggles. Having taught art to U.S. soldiers with PTSD, his work bridges cultures and reveals an Afghanistan rarely seen.
This exhibition is more than an artistic showcase; it is a conversation about survival, identity, and the unyielding spirit of those who refuse to be erased.
At the reception, we will have drinks, serve Afghan and Ukrainian food, make connections, and tell stories through art. Alongside the artists, the Honorary Consul of Ukraine to Indiana and president of Ukrainian Society of Indiana, Svitlana Ramer, and the founder of Afghan American Community Center, Najia Sherzad Hoshmand, will share their perspectives and personal stories.
We look forward to sharing this unforgettable experience with you.
