The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will feature Tarrey Banks in “Snapshots” as part of the September First Friday art tour, Friday, September 5th, 6-9pm. Admission and parking are free.
“I create characters, examining humans and seeing their weirdness, their stories, being curious about who we are and who those are around us,” Tarrey Banks explained. “Take a look at one of my characters and try to imagine how they got where they are in this snapshot. What’s behind the eyes? Where have they been? Where are they headed? Why are they going there? It’s kinda dirty, kinda weird, kinda sad, and kinda funny.”
Banks’s show will focus on his illustrative style, loose with exaggerated features. Each image tells a story, often leaning toward masculine characters commonly dealing with their own masculinity, sadness, confidence or lack thereof, or other issues plaguing the aging man.
About Tarrey Banks
Originally from the small town of Hayden, Indiana, Tarrey Banks is a self-taught artist inspired by his mother’s artistic journey as a landscape painter, as she was also self-taught. He grew up painting and drawing in her care. Middle school turned him more toward athletics and away from the arts, but during COVID, now as a middle school teacher himself teaching online from his garage, he built a studio and got back into exploring his art.
“It would be an exaggeration to say that art saved my life, but it surely did alter my life’s trajectory. Discovering art, again, as a 45-year-old, has given me something new to be passionate about. As an artist, I’m still trying to develop my style and my narrative. I truly enjoy making art. I only make the art I want to make. I am interested in pushing myself and my voice as an artist. I’m full of ideas. I’ll turn 50 in December, and my 50s will be full of making art. I can’t wait,” Banks said.
