Filmmakers! Join Heartland Film and Pattern Inc. to learn about navigating independent film distribution. Keynote speaker and Indiana native Milan Chakraborty will join us remotely to demystify indie film distribution.

There will be a short Q&A followed by guided breakout sessions and networking. Admission includes popcorn and a drink ticket.

Demystifying Distribution is the final workshop in The Film Lab Series presented by Pattern Inc. in partnership with 12 Stars Media, Hoodox, Heartland Film and Film Indy. This series focuses on business, finance and funding for filmmakers.

Milan Chakraborty

Milan Chakraborty is from Terre Haute, Indiana. He is the Head of Film at Marginal MediaWorks, oversees all of the company’s efforts in independent, studio and streaming film. He is an 19 year veteran of the film industry. Milan worked at Warner Bros and New Line Cinema in production finance and accounting on projects including Batman Begins, Superman Returns, History of Violence and V for Vendetta. Milan began independently producing in 2008 and has produced and executive produced over 25 features including “My Friend Dahmer,” “Assassination Nation,” “Plus One,” “The Dark & the Wicked,” multiple Spirit Award nominee “The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain,” and executive produced his first doc, “BLACK BARBIE: A Documentary” directed by Lagueria Davis (SHONDALAND/NETFLIX). Most recently, Milan’s recent film “She Taught Love” premiered on HULU in September 2024.

Milan is teaching a course this semester at his alma mater The College of William & Mary in the Film & Media Studies department.

Milan grew up in Terre Haute and graduated from Terre Haute South in 1996. He is an alumnus of the Heartland International Film Festival as with titles including Audience Award-winning “Where Hope Grows,” Spirit of Change Award-winning “The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain,” “Black Barbie,” “Four Samosas,” “The Secret Art of Human Flight” and more.
