The Urban Renewal Big Band returns with a show we call “Hoosier Heroes of Jazz.” Jazz lovers are well aware of the many jazz masters with connections to Indiana, but sadly, many of their works are rarely performed. For this program, we have written entirely new arrangements to feature familiar compositions by Freddie Hubbard, Wes Montgomery, Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael. In addition, we will be presenting some lesser known, but great compositions by David Baker, JJ Johnson, Randy Brecker, Slide Hampton, Jimmie Coe and Larry Greene. Most of these compositions were originally performed by small ensembles. The Urban Renewal Big Band has re-imagined and arranged these tunes for the full big band in a way they have never been heard before.
