The Hopper Prize is now accepting entries for our Spring 2024 artist grants.

We are offering $3,500 and $1,000 grants to artists and photographers around the world.

The Hopper Prize was established in order to increase the recognition of artwork created by artists and photographers. Our aim is to advance artists’ careers by providing them with unrestricted financial support that is coupled with a platform for increased visibility. We accept submissions twice a year via an open call.

We are currently accepting submissions for the Spring 2024 grant cycle.

Our jurors will be selecting 6 artists from our open call who will each receive an unrestricted cash grant.

2 artists will win $3,500 and 4 artists will win $1,000.

The jurors will also select a shortlist of 30 artists who will have their work archived at hopperprize.org.

Grant awards are unrestricted and may be used any way the recipients choose.

When submitting your work, you will have the option to opt-in to be considered for possible Instagram features on our feed @hopperprize, where we currently reach an audience of over 115k. Our editors will be featuring select submissions on a rolling basis prior to the application deadline.

In addition to grant awards, our shortlist, and Instagram reach, we will be providing an additional platform for exposure via our online Journal Insights Into Contemporary Art. We launched this digital publication to give artists a new channel to amplify their voice while providing an in-depth look at their work, practice, and background. Grant recipients and shortlisted artists will all receive the opportunity to publish an interview to include any work of their choosing as a means of providing continued support beyond the open call.

Eligibility

The Hopper Prize is open to all artists age 18 and older working in any media. There are no restrictions on genre, subject matter, or media. We welcome entries in all media.

We are committed to supporting artists from diverse cultural backgrounds at all stages of their professional careers. All artists are encouraged to apply.

In celebration of 10 years of porching, the Harrison Center, in partnership with the Indy 500, is currently seeking submissions for a group show in City Gallery that will open on May First Friday!†To be considered, entries must be artwork that incorporates porching/porch parties!

Porching is a tangible and simple way where people can gather and show hospitality to each other. In 2014, the Harrison Center began encouraging people to gather on their porches with food and drink to cultivate a sense of community in their neighborhoods. In 2016, Harrison Center began partnering with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to kick off the porch party season in May. Hospitality took different forms in 2020, and porch parties were reimagined to become a cultural force to rally communities and reduce social isolation during the pandemic. The artwork selected for this show will exhibit the fun spirit and hospitable warmth of porch parties through the years.

The show opens from 6-9 PM on Friday, May 3rd, and the work hangs through Friday, May 31st.

-We are accepting all media. If you are submitting video, you will need to supply your own projection equipment. Pieces that are not easily hung should be installed by the artist.†Please state in your submission if your piece is AI-generated or assisted.

-Harrison Center retains the right to decline artwork based on appropriateness for all audiences and will have final approval of the content of work hung.

-Submit up to 3 jpeg images (labeled lastname_title) by 5 pm on Friday, April 19th, 2024. Submitted images should be of a finished product (not a concept). We are accepting all media. If you submit a video, you must supply your own projection equipment. Pieces that are not easily hung should be installed by the artist.

-Artists who are selected to participate in the show will be notified by 5 pm on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024.

-Work included in the show must be for sale. Work that is sold after the show closes, but as a result of the Harrison Center show and events will be subject to the Harrison Center commission rate for a period of 30 days after show closes.

-Harrison Center takes a 30% commission on sales. All exhibited artwork must be for sale.
-If your work is chosen for the show, it should be delivered to City Gallery at the Harrison Center on either Friday, April 26th, between 8 30 am and 5 00 pm or Monday, April 29th, between 8 30 am and 5 30 pm. Artwork must be presented in a professional manner and delivered wired and ready to hang. (No sawtooth hangers.)-If an accepted entry is delivered in a format that is not ready to hang or after 5 pm on Monday, April 29th, it will not be exhibited.

The Truth of Freedom African Diaspora to Afrofuturism

In commemoration of Juneteenth, this yearís theme reflects on the history of the African Diaspora and its varied celebrations of liberation across the world while connecting them with visions of the future and the continued advancements of liberty and freedom for African descendants in the Diaspora. Continuing in the legacy of these descendants who engaged in resistance by imagining worlds of equality and justice for Black people, we take as our point of departure, afrofuturism, with its fusion of history, science fiction, and fantasy, to explore and expound new visions for the future of Black people. These elements of afrofuturism all represent areas where Black representation and Black stories have been nearly absent and areas that reflect the cultural fabric and storytelling of society.

Open to Black artists living in, or from Indiana.

All art submissions are due by 5pm 4/1/24. Please complete the Google Form with all necessary information, including

3-5 high quality images with title, medium, dimensions, and a brief description of your process and/or inspiration for each (the exhibit will include extended labels so you can share more about your work); contact†info, including social media handles, mailing address, and phone number; a brief bio and headshot.

Artwork needs to be complete at time of submission. All participating artists will have the option to have their artwork featured on TruthofFreedom website and in a full-color coffee table book to be available for sale in the Newfields giftshop. Further details will be provided after acceptance to the exhibit.

Artwork drop off 5/28 before 11am.

Exhibit 5/31-7/14.

Please pay close attention to the hanging requirements as Newfields has a new hanging system and D-rings require a different placement than traditional wire hanging.

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS

The Artwork provided by the Exhibitor for the Exhibition will adhere to the following requirements

All Artwork must be displayed inside the Gallery space and cannot be located outside the Gallery entrance.
A label identifying the artist, title, and medium must be affixed to the back of each Artwork.
For all two-dimensional Artwork, the size limitation is forty-two by thirty-six inches (42î x 36î) in any direction, including the frame.
Plexiglas glazing is preferred for all two-dimensional Artworks.
Strap hangers or d-ring hanging hardware are required for all two-dimensional Artwork. The Gallery uses an Arakawa Hanging System and†Artwork will not be able to be hung by wire.
The Gallery can accommodate no more than three (3) three-dimensional objects total with the following restrictions

o††††††Each three-dimensional Artwork must have an enclosed display case, which will be provided by†Newfields.

o††††††Newfields†can accept two (2) three-dimensional Artworks with the size limitation of†twenty-four inches height by eighteen inches width by eighteen inches depth (24î H x 18î W x 18î D).

o††††††Newfields†can accept one (1) three-dimensional Artwork with the size limitation of twenty-four inches height by twelve inches width by twelve inches depth (24î H x 48î W x 36î D).

All three-dimensional Artwork must be self-stable within each display case or stable with the use of a mount.

o††††††Mounts must be provided by the Exhibitor and require the approval of†Newfields. Three-dimensional Artwork cannot exceed the maximum weight of one hundred pounds (100 lbs).

Opportunity for artists, community groups, nonprofits, and individuals to display their work at Central Library.

Central Library has display cases available for civic, educational, artistic, or cultural exhibits. This exhibit space is free to utilize, and it is not intended for commercial purposes. Central Library’s goal is to highlight voices, spotlight nonprofit efforts, enhance lifelong learning, and bring relevant talking points to the community.

The exhibits will change quarterly, running from January to March, April to June, July to September, and October to December, providing the public with ample opportunities throughout the year to share their work. Individuals can display infographics, signs, paintings, photography, sculpture, documents, artifacts, and ephemera in the cases.

The Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) is seeking original artworks of various sizes and mediums to be hung, displayed and/or installed throughout the offices at the English Foundation Building (615 N. Alabama St).

PRICING $500 ñ $5,000 per piece

ELIGIBILITY Visual artists must be over 18, based in Central Indiana (Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, Morgan, Shelby Counties) and legally able to work in the United States. This opportunity is available to visual artists working in any medium, including painting, ceramics, digital arts, textile and fiber arts, etc.

DEADLINE Application will close at 4 PM on 3/29/24.

Each artist may suggest up to 3 original pieces of art for consideration; please fill out one application for each suggested artwork.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applications will be reviewed throughout April with notifications projected for early May.
The internal CICF Art Committee will review artist applications for artwork to be selected by a majority vote, based on selection criteria and specifications.
Selected artists will be compensated at their suggested pricing and invited to drop off artwork(s) at the English Foundation building or arrange for pickup.

Applications are now being accepted for ARTIST STUDIOS FOR RENT at the WAPAHANI ART CENTER at 1103 Kentucky Avenue in Downtown INDY. Within a few feet of the beautiful waterfront wilderness of White River, Wapahani Trail, studio spaces range from 250 ñ 650 sq.ft. Prices start at $350.00 per month. Space includes utilities, common area maintenance, free parking and artist event nights. Most spaces have sinks and windows.
