February - March 2022 | New Photography 2022

FebMar Photo Facebook Event Cover no dates

The second First Friday reception to celebrate New Photography 2022 is 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Mar. 4.

One artist captures his ambivalence toward the community he grew up in. Another explores “Women’s Work” and the ways women are dehumanized when they're relegated to using objects assigned to them. Other themes look at the cycle of life, the complexity of memory, climate change—and even race tracks in the Midwest.

We invite you to experience these artworks at New Photography 2022 at Gallery 924. The exhibition, curated by Aurora PhotoCenter in partnership with the Indy Arts Council, tells the story of the seismic changes the world has experienced during the pandemic, the protests for racial, social, and economic justice, and the shifts in the way we work, go to school, and live.

Artists include Arria Woolcock; Asli Narin; Cary Benbow; Claire Hegge; Jenna Mesker; Matt Carroll; Savannah Calhoun; Stefan Petranek; Steve Nyktas; and Torry Brown. Not only do their photo-based works keep a record of our changing times, but they reveal beauty and new directions to explore.
