Arts Organization of the Month

Help your favorite Indy-area organization get some valuable publicity

Each month, a small- to mid-sized organization will be featured in 30-second radio spots (40 spots throughout the month). This is a promotional partnership between WICR and Indy Arts Council.

Selected organizations must be based in the Indianapolis metropolitan area and have:

  • A 501c3 status.
  • An annual operating budget below $500,000.
  • Programming or promotional needs that align with the month in which they are selected. (For example, an event, a fundraising campaign, etc.)

NOVEMBER ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO Naptown African American Theatre Collective

Join us as we celebrate Naptown African American Theatre Collective (NAATC) as November's WICR Arts Organization of the Month! NAATC, Indy's first Black equity theater, is passionate about creating art that speaks to the humanity, beauty, and power of Black stories.

OCTOBER ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO Indiana Performing Arts Centre and KaidyDid Productions

Join us as we celebrate Indiana Performing Arts Centre and KaidyDid Productions as October's WICR Arts Organization of the Month! IPAC, founded in 2005, keeps the spirit of Black theater alive through top-notch performances, children’s theater, education and community outreach.

SEPTEMBER ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO Global Village Welcome Center

Join us as we celebrate Global Village Welcome Center as September's WICR Arts Organization of the Month! The Global Village Welcome Center, in the International Marketplace area, is a space where all cultures can gather to share and celebrate their traditions.

Make sure to enjoy their Latino Heritage Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. September 23 or visit the Latino Heritage exhibit now through September 30. You can learn about their mission by listening to radio spots all month long on WICR (88.7)


AUGUST ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre

Join us as we celebrate Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre as August's WICR Arts Organization of the Month! The Phoenix Theatre’s amazing 2023-2024 season kicks off August 24, celebrating its 40th anniversary. JULY ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO Asante Art Institute

Join us as we celebrate Asante Art Institute of Indianapolis as July’s WICR Arts Organization of the Month! Hear more about how they’ve been inspiring creative change in the community for 30+ years by listening to spots all month long on WICR (88.7). 

Coming up: Don’t miss a young cast of nine Asante artists telling their unique story at "Soul, Clap and Dance! JOY as Resistance" at Conner Prairie.

Join us as we celebrate Indy Juneteenth as June’s WICR Arts Organization of the Month! Hear more about their mission to improve the quality and narrative of life around the Black community in Indiana by listening to radio spots all month long on WICR (88.7).

MAY ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO Storytelling Arts of Indiana

Help us celebrate Storytelling Arts of Indiana as May's WICR Arts Organization of the Month! Storytelling Arts, founded in 1987, aims to inspire all generations to value, experience and practice storytelling in daily life. They also host 140+ events every year, including the monthly
Indy Story Slam.

APRIL ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO INDIANAPOLIS SYMPHONIC CHOIR

Help us celebrate Indianapolis Symphonic Choir as April's WICR Arts Organization of the Month! Founded in 1937, ISC is dedicated to creating and performing new choral masterworks.

They’re hosting a world premiere by composer Augusta Read Thomas, Toward a Secret Sky, on April 28 and 29 at Hilbert Circle Theatre. Learn more about the show and get tickets at indychoir.org.


MARCH ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO ARTMIX

Help us celebrate ArtMix as March's WICR Arts Organization of the Month! Since 1982, ArtMix–located inside the Harrison Center–has worked to transform the lives of people with disabilities through the creation of art.

Make sure to visit their studio on March 3 for the First Friday opening of ABLE: You said we couldn’t, so we did. The exhibit showcases the work of ArtMix artists, teaching artists, and staff who are individuals with disabilities.


FEBRUARY ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO IIBADA DANCE COMPANY

Help us celebrate iibada Dance Company as February’s WICR Arts Organization of the Month! Iibada, founded by Sabra Logan, has been teaching us all how to dance--and appreciate dancing as an art form--for 34 years.

Tickets go on sale in mid-February for "Glorious: The Revival," which Iibada will present March 24-26 at Ben Davis High School. "Glorious" is the moving story of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Indy's first African American Church. There's also "Glorious: The Experience," a pop-up museum presented in partnership with Bethel A.M.E. and the Indiana Historical Society.


JANUARY ARTS ORGANIZATION

CONGRATS TO STOREFRONT THEATRE

Help us celebrate Storefront Theatre as January’s WICR Arts Organization of the Month! Storefront, founded in 2016 by artistic director Ronan Marra, focuses on new work by underrepresented playwrights.

Storefront will be featured on WICR (88.7) radio spots all month long. Make sure to see Post-Democracy, the theater's first play in their new space at 2416 E. 55th St. Admission is donation-only for the show, Jan. 13-29. Get tickets here.
