2026 Blakeman Gerber Indianapolis International Baroque Competition

The Festival Music Society, d.b.a. Indianapolis Early Music (IEM), and IndyBaroque Music, Inc., parent
organization of the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra (IBO), will jointly produce the third quadrennial
Blakeman Gerber Indianapolis International Baroque Competition (BGIIBC) on July 12, 2026. The
organizations seek a Competition Administrator.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Competition Administrator is responsible for the administrative and clerical tasks related to the
planning, execution, and evaluation of the 2026 BGIIBC. Key responsibilities include, but are not
limited to:
– Ensuring adherence to the production timeline.
– Maintaining the production playbook and financial records.
– Executing the fundraising and marketing plans, including social media promotion.
– Planning hospitality events for the competition weekend.
– Creating and distributing itineraries for the judges and the participants, including dinners and receptions.
– Preparing a final report for the Competition Steering Committee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communication Functions: The Competition Administrator engages with the Competition Steering
Committee, the public, vendors, and staff to promote the Competition. Their responsibilities include, but
are not limited to, answering questions, making business arrangements, preparing contracts, writing
instructions, creating correspondence, and presenting reports, with an emphasis on maintaining a
professional appearance in all communications.

** Additionally, the Competition Administrator is responsible for all communications between the Judges
and the BGIIBC, and between the applicants and eventual Laureates and the BGIIBC.
Manual/Physical: The Competition Administrator is knowledgeable in computer use, can operate their
own vehicle for competition-related tasks, can lift and carry up to 20 pounds, and is able to manage steps.
Professional Interactions: The Competition Administrator prioritizes their administrative tasks and
meets deadlines. They effectively plan, delegate, and share the work of volunteers. They are skilled at
recognizing and resolving problems, and seeking assistance when necessary. The administrator manages
financial records accurately, sharing financial reports with the appropriate representatives of both IEM
and IBO. He or she communicates well in both social and business settings. They handle interactions
tactfully and courteously, showing respect for everyone. At all times, they maintain personal integrity and
honesty.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:

– A degree in Arts Administration, Events Management, or a related field from an accredited college or
university.
– A minimum of 3 years of managerial experience in an arts
-related organization (preferably in music) or in public programming or special events management; alternatively, at least 2 years of experience in a
competition production role.
– Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in social media, as well as strong written and
verbal abilities.
– Capacity to perform essential functions of the position.
Preferred/Desirable qualifications: Supplemental coursework, whether in a college or university
setting, or through professional organizations, as well as experience in fundraising, marketing, website
management, design, and hospitality. Knowledge of Baroque music is a plus.

RELATIONSHIP TO ORGANIZING ENTITIES
The Administrator is hired by IEM, which serves as the fiscal agent for the Competition, and is
compensated by IEM. The Competition Administrator reports to the chair of the Competition Steering
Committee, who provides guidance and regular feedback at least once per quarter. The Competition
Administrator also participates in meetings of the Competition Steering Committee and submits reports to
the governing boards of IEM and IBO as needed.
Working logistics: The position is part-time and compensated based on an hourly rate of $30 for services
rendered in support of a successful competition. Payment will be made at intervals to be agreed upon with
the chair of the Steering Committee at the time of the employment offer. The Administrator may work
from their own office or home; however, compensation for remote work is considered to be included in
the fee. Office supplies will be provided and/or reimbursed.
The duties listed above are general descriptions of the various types of work that may be
performed. Other duties may be required to assure a successful competition.

Hourly rate is $30/hour.
