Boone County Seeks Artist for Mural in Lebanon, IN

Boone County’s 180 in Color initiative is seeking a talented artist to create a mural on the north side of the historic Lido Building, at 124 South Lebanon Street in Lebanon, IN. The mural project is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to Lebanon’s growing art scene and make a lasting impact. This project is part of the larger 180 Makeover program, aimed at revitalizing and beautifying the community.

ELIGIBILITY:  Artists and artist-led teams with all members over 18, who are living in central Indiana and are U.S. citizens or otherwise able to work in the U.S. Preference may be given to Boone County artists. Liability insurance will be required.

ARTIST FEE:  $30,000 (includes design fees, materials, supplies, equipment, travel expenses, and labor)

The aim of Boone County 180 in Color is to infuse the area with a burst of creativity and cultural expression, making the mural a focal point for both residents and visitors. By enhancing the visual landscape of South Lebanon Street, the project seeks to contribute to the revitalization efforts of the 180 Makeover program and celebrate the community’s vibrant spirit through art. The mural i funded by a READI 1.0 grant, with a combination of federal, state, and local (private) funding. The 180 in Color project leverages these funds to create public art as an economic development strategy.

Artists are eligible regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, marital or familial status, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, and gender expression or identity.

Project Timeline

  • October 2, 2024: Release of Request for Qualifications
  • October 16, 2024:  Interested applicant Q&A via Teams at 10 am EST. Register here. Please note: the time listed on the link may initially say October 9th. This will be edited. The correct date is October 16th.
  • October 28, 2024 – 12 pm:  Deadline to apply
  • November 6, 2024: Selection Committee Reviews RFQs and Selects Artist
  • November 7, 2024: Selection Committee Notifies Artist(s) of Selection
  • January 3, 2025: Concept Design Due
  • January 4, 2025 – February 14, 2025:  Design Refinement
  • February 21, 2025: Final approvals
  • September 15, 2025: Project completed*
  • September 30, 2025: Final billing submitted

*This building will be under significant construction in early 2025, so it is anticipated the wall will be ready for the mural in late summer/early fall 2025. The entire project must be completed by 12/31/25, including billing.

  • Work Samples: Provide up to 5 images of past work that best represent your experience, style, and ability as it relates to this project. In addition, you may also submit up to 3 additional images of any other work (large scale or otherwise) that best represents your work over the past 10 years. Please include a list of the work samples with as much information about each of the samples as possible (include name/title of piece, location, medium, process, dimensions, year completed, cost/price/commission amount, and any other pertinent information).
