The City of Greenwood, IN, is seeking artists to design artwork for a second round of traffic signal box wraps in Old Town Greenwood. Following a successful first phase, this round will feature nine (9) additional boxes.
Artists may submit up to three designs exploring any theme. Selected artists will have one month to finalize their artwork. Each selected design will receive a $500 stipend (split evenly among team members, if applying as an art team). The City will cover all printing and installation costs. Wraps are expected to last about five years but may be removed sooner if needed.
DEADLINES:
• Artist Call Published: October 31, 2025
• Application Submission: January 30, 2026, by 5:00pm
• Notification of Finalists: February 13, 2026, by 5:00pm
• Final Designs Due: March 13, 2026, by 5:00pm
• Installation: April-May 2026
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
All applications must include the following items, combined into one PDF file. Incomplete applications will not be considered:
1. Contact Information — Name, email, phone number, mailing address, and website and/or social media handle.
2. Statement of Interest — A brief explanation of your concept(s) and overall approach to this project.
3. Resume or CV — One page summarizing relevant experience.
4. Work Samples — At least two (2) images of previous artwork of a similar scale.
5. Design Proposal(s) — Up to three (3) design concepts may be submitted. Design submissions do not need to be finalized artwork. Concept proposals may be digital or hand-drawn and must include:
o A sketch or preliminary rendering placed within the provided traffic box template, showing all four visible sides.
o A PDF of the standalone design (flat image) for review.
o (If submitting a hand-painted design) The final selected artwork must be delivered as a high-resolution digital scan (300 DPI or higher), sized to fit traffic box dimensions.
ARTWORK CRITERIA:
Artwork may be representational or abstract, but must not contain the following:
• Advertising, logos, or speech
• Political partisanship
• Religious imagery
• Sexual content
• Negative imagery (i.e. weapons, drugs, alcohol, illegal behavior, etc.)
• Copyright-protected imagery
• Dark color schemes that increase the temperature of the cabinet
• Images that resemble or imitate any official road signs, signals, or traffic control devices
