Deadline: 09/27/2024

Exhibit Your Artwork at the Spades Park Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library

Requirements and Guidelines to Submit:

The Spades Park Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library is hosting a community art exhibition at our historic Carnegie library.  We were built in 1912 and are one of two Carnegie libraries in the system. We are looking for local artists interested in sharing their work in this historic space.  The exhibit will include student as well as professional work in an effort to introduce young community members to local artists. The theme is COMMUNITY.

Unless otherwise specified, acceptable media include, but are not limited to: painting, drawing, fiber arts, digital art, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed-media, collage, assemblage, mosaics, metalsmithing and woodworking. Please note that we cannot display video/film art at this time.

Artists can submit multiple pieces of artwork. All artwork must be original. There is no fee to submit. Space is limited so piece size is somewhat limited.

The Indianapolis Public Library is happy to facilitate connecting interested parties with the artists for purpose of sales, but we cannot be part of the transaction. The dates of the exhibit will be October 19-26th with a meet the artist reception on October 26th in the evening. Artwork can be dropped off the week prior. Installation will happen on October 18 after 1 p.m. if the artist would like to be present to display their pieces personally. It would be expected that all work would remain displayed for the entire week of the exhibit with purchasers able to secure their artwork on October 26th after the reception.  All artwork would need to be picked up no later than 7:00 p.m. on October 28th.  Please indicate your desire to participate in the show by emailing us at ggerman@indypl.org by or before September 27 and include the following:

  • Contact Info: artist name, address, phone number, email
  • Headshot or image of artist
  • Artist bio (3-5 sentences max)
  • Social media handles and website (if applicable). These will be published with each artist’s info to help promote the artists in this online exhibit.
  • High quality images of your work in jpg or png format. Include your last name and the artwork title for the image filename. No glares, shadows, blurred, or pixelated images, please. Please ensure that your images are at least 600-800 pixels on the short edge.
  • For each piece submitted, please also include the title, medium(s), dimensions, and price (or NFS, if not for sale)

All works must be ready to hang or install upon arrival. Some easels will be present for framed pieces. There will also be a portable hanging system for smaller pieces. If your piece hangs, some sort of hanging structure, such as a wire, must be included as we cannot hang anything from the ceiling. Please contact Nell German at ggerman@indypl.org for information or questions.

Please note that artists cannot store any packing materials at the library. All materials used to transport and protect artwork must be taken back with the artist, or they will be disposed of.

By submitting your artwork, you are agreeing to participate in an exhibition and reception hosted by the Indianapolis Public Library at Spades Park. Images of artwork will be used for promotion only.
