Fishers Make-Off! Seeks Artist Applicants

Deadline: 03/03/2025

Showcasing the variety of wonderful, artful things a person can create in our makerspace, Ignite Studio will host its second annual Make-Off on Saturday, March 29 from 9 AM – 4 PM. Selected artists will compete to make an original piece of art related to Ignite equipment, kits, or other in-house materials to highlight the creative possibilities involved in making.

Artists will be given six hours to complete a work of art which will culminate in the awarding of monetary prizes. Patrons will be able to watch the process of creating art, take part in hands-on activities, and participate in a patron art challenge. This year’s theme is abstract art: using the building blocks of art.

Deadline: February 24

Subject:
The work must relate to the theme of abstract art. The work must be appropriate for public presentation in a family friendly space.

Theme: Abstract Art
Abstract art, in this competition, involves the breaking down of art into its primary elements: dot, line, shape, form, color, value, space, and texture. The focus is on the building blocks of art rather than the fidelity to the subject seen in traditional, realistic landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. Abstract art makes no effort to capture the real world perfectly, frequently prioritizing the conveyance of emotion or meaning thru gestural mark making. Abstract art pieces can serve as an investigation of the elements of art.

Judging
Winners will be selected by a panel including a past winner.

Prizes
1st: $1500

2nd: $750

3rd: $500

Display
All work will be on display in the Lobby Gallery from April 5 to May 16.
