Indy Art Center Summer Camp Director

Job Summary:

The Indy Art Center fosters life-long learning through hands-on art classes, workshops, and activities for diverse audiences. The Camp Director will oversee lesson plan development, administrative tasks, management, and teaching responsibilities for the Art Center’s camp programs. This role will act as a liaison between the Education staff, instructors, and assistants, providing leadership and fostering creativity, positivity, and teamwork.

Essential Job Functions:

Supervise performance of all camp instructors and assistants.

Address behavioral and learning concerns of campers; provide guidance to instructors and communicate with parents/guardians.

Manage inventory and supplies; maintain the cleanliness and organization of studios and surrounding areas.

Collaborate with the Youth, Teen, and Teacher Programs Director to hire and train camp staff.

Substitute teaches as needed throughout the Summer Camp season.

Ensure that lessons align with the curriculum and are taught using effective methods (e.g., DBAE).

Facilitate open communication among camp staff.

Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment by establishing and enforcing standards and procedures.

Report to the Youth, Teen, and Teacher Programs Director and other administrative staff, ensuring timely submission of reports and records.

Additional Job Functions:

Maintain communication with the camp director and staff at the Fishers Art Center location.

Attend and/or lead relevant meetings and training sessions for Summer Camp.

Competency Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

Knowledge of various art techniques and processes.

Effective leadership and management skills.

Classroom and behavior management experience.

Proficiency in engaging students of all abilities and teaching course concept

A strong basic knowledge of the core functions and features in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Quick to learn and effectively operate new software, including Amilia, our specialized programming platform.

Education and Experience:

Experience in art, art education, or a related field.

Prior experience working with children is required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Travel to Art Center locations and other city venues as required.

Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.

Ability to perform physical tasks related to the medium being taught.

This role is primarily onsite, with occasional remote work as needed.

This is a temporary position beginning in March of 2025 and continuing through the Summer. The end date of this position is TBD.

Additional Information:

Background check required prior to employment. Hourly pay is $17.50.
