International Sculpture Center 2024 Innovator Award

The ISC Innovator Award recognizes individuals, organizations, or collectives for creative social innovation in the field of contemporary sculpture. Through the development of new ideas and work, recipients of this award improve and expand the ways that sculpture can effect change.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to any sculptor(s) working anywhere in the world. ISC membership is NOT required!

AWARD:  $1,000 cash prize plus a one-year Professional (individual) or Associate (organization) level ISC Membership; recognition on  http://sculpture.org and in Sculpture Magazine; virtual event to present work/project in the annual “Community” issue of Sculpture; residency opportunity (if available)

DEADLINE TO APPLY:  September 10, 2024

Submissions will be reviewed by a jury of professionals in the field, who will select one final recipient. After confirmed by the ISC Awards Committee and Board of Trustees, the recipient will be notified in December 2024 and honored at community awards ceremony (date TBD).

2023 Innovator Award Recipient
Ogwado Joachim is a visual artist hailing from Kampala, Uganda, with a strong focus on sculpture and installation. His artistic approach seamlessly blends imagination and reality, resulting in captivating visual imagery that documents both the present and the memories of the past. Using ordinary and widespread materials, he aims to foster a deeper understanding of his community's history and culture. The medium that predominantly captivates Ogwado Joachim is plastic, chosen for its unique properties of transparency, reflectivity, and widespread availability. Embracing a collaborative approach with the public, he actively involves his community in his art, encouraging engagement and dialogue. Drawing inspiration from indigenous knowledge archives, Ogwado Joachim adopts techniques from his cultural heritage. These practices help him connect with his roots and better comprehend the vanishing aspects of his own cultural identity.
