Nancy Stimson founded Freewheelin Community Bikes with the goal of supporting youth cycling and is the inspiration for this functional yellow bike rack. FreewheelinÂ’ Community Bikes is a non-profit earn-a-bike program focusing on education and empowerment through bicycling. FreewheelinÂ’ teaches at-risk youth valuable bike repair and maintenance skills.
The bike rack was made possible by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Bicycle and Pedestrian Program. The program is committed to advancing and promoting multimodal and active transportation planning, including cycling. INDOT has launched a new statewide initiative to identify ways that active transportation can provide additional mobility options, enhance livability, support economic development, tourism and encourage healthy lifestyles.
