Buckingham Companies’ Library Square Development
The Arts Council of Indianapolis is assisting local developer Buckingham Companies with public art for their commercial and residential development just north of Central Library. Dubbed “Library Square,” the development will incorporate several newly-commissioned projects. This initiative continues Buckingham’s tradition of voluntarily incorporating public art into its properties, which include CityWay and the Alexander Hotel.
One of the projects is literature-based: the incorporation of thoughtful, short poems by local writers into the sidewalks of the development’s perimeter, curated in partnership with the Indiana Writers Center and the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library. A second project will add wall-based artwork in the Living Alley, a courtyard space for commercial and residential tenants. Artworks are scheduled to be installed by the end of 2018.
