  • Garfield Park

This traffic signal box design draws inspiration from Garfield Park’s ability to foster community through music, art, play, an active lifestyle, and appreciation of nature.

The imagery reflects the park, often filled with cyclists commuting to work, dining at local restaurants, or visiting friends. Above the trail, a bright blue sky and fluffy white clouds transform into two hands clinking to-go cups in a cheerful toast, celebrating simple moments like meeting a friend for coffee. Below, one of the iconic fountains from the Garfield Park Conservatory springs to life, blending into a collection of exotic plants from within the Conservatory itself. In the foreground, a woman walks her dog through the park at dusk, a quiet gesture of connection to her community, her pet, and her own well-being. The trees stand as steadfast witnesses to these everyday moments, as they have for generations. The side panel transitions to two pickleball paddles and a ball, acknowledging the park’s popular courts. A painter’s palette and brushes complete the design, paying tribute to the thriving creative community surrounding Garfield Park, including the Garfield Park Art Center and nearby Tube Factory.

The artwork was created by Zionsville, IN-based artist Christina Hollering as part of the Indy Arts Council’s Streetcorner Canvases Partnership program, funded by the Public Art for Neighborhoods Fund of the City of Indianapolis and by the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors (MIBOR).
