"I was able to do, see and learn so much during my month in India and I am positive that it will impact my work, my company and my community for years to come."
Gregory traveled to India and spent a month visiting culturally diverse regions of the nation, learning about new forms of dance, music and languages.. He worked with Expressions Modern Dance Company in Mumbai where he taught several master classes and created several new works. While in India, Gregory had meetings with film director Sri K. Vishwanath, who invited him to return to create choreography for his films. "My work was warmly embraced in India, and I gained even more knowledge of dance, music, religion and culture than I ever expected." The director of Expressions Modern Dance Company visited Indianapolis following Gregory's visit to India and will send two dancers to Indianapolis to study with Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre in spring of 2011.
Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre presented Once Upon a Time in India in October 2010 inspired by his renewal experience. "While I have produced numerous Indian programs prior to this, the new pieces I created were truly of a new genre and took my work to different levels previously unexplored."
