"I still feel as though I am only in the beginning stages of assimilating my renewal experience and giving it its voice in my work. Its effects have been momentuous and I feel that I have emerged from this two-year period more confident and self aware as an artists and as a person."
Amy traveled to Rome, Venice and Florence, Italy to tour museums, churches historical sites, and the 2009 Venice Biennale. "I chose Italy as my destination because of my interest in the Renaissance and Baroque painting and decorative arts." Linking up with an old friend in Italy helped Amy to visit lesser-known sites in Rome, which added greatly to her overall experience - including a night tour of Rome on a motorbike.
As a result of her travels and her renewal experience, she has been influenced to explore in her own work the religious and biblical images she saw in much of the Renaissance art. "I want to explore these ideas by creating a contemporary setting for these themes and stories, while not diminishing their intent or message. The creative renewal experience also helped me refine my drawing skills and has given me a greater sensitivity to light and color." Amy has created a new series of paintings inspired by her travels.
