Yakoleva, Alyona

"It was a pivotal moment when I realized my unique perspective and I now feel more personally connected to my craft and understand the amazing opportunities I have to make this legacy available to a broader audience and to show that art connects us culturally and internationally."

Alyona used her fellowship to improve her craft as a choreographer, instructor, and dancer by attending seminars at the famed Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. As part of her continuing education, she explored teaching methods, collaborated with peers, and incorporated newly learned skills and methodologies into her instructional strategies to improve, further inspire, and motivate her students. The experience "helped deepen my understanding of this methodology and inspired me to explore my own artistic identity. It renewed my dedication to sharing my knowledge and appreciation for this historical and cultural tradition with my own students."

Alyona was thrilled when she was invited to return to Russia to participate in the Vaganova Masters of Choreography Degree program. As a result of Alyona's fellowship, plans are in the works to forge a lasting relationship with the Academy and create international outreach programs between the Indiana Ballet Conservatory and the Vaganova Ballet Academy.
