Richardson, was willing to make documentary images along the way. My daughter had just finished a four-week hike on the Appalachian Trail. Her new insights and experiences enhanced my own.”
Combining her passion for photography and environmental concerns, Adele centered her journey on personal discovery. She wanted to travel to the western part of the United States to visit the sites of two of the oldest trees on Earth. Prometheus, a bristlecone pine located in Wheeler Peak, Nevada, was said to be around 5,000 years old when it was cut down for research purposes in 1964. Sadly, only its stump remains today. Methuselah, also a bristlecone pine, is said to be over 4,800 years old and secretly lives in the White Mountains in Inyo National Forest, California. Adele planned to visit Prometheus and photograph the ancient tree. She also searched and experienced the essence of Methuselah and did not take a photograph. “I focused exclusively on the experience of the search— both inward and outward—of that mystic and majestic tree.”
Her quest took her on hikes in five different states through six different parks, taking in the beauty, mystery, and life that nature presented. “Through my meditative hiking, I was able to focus on a brave new direction for my work titled, River Capture, a sound composition and installation of world rivers.”
